Durga Puja 2026

The Celebration of Divine Shakti in Victoria

  • 10:25 am - January 22, 2026

SACAV: The Arrival of the Mother For every Bengali living in Victoria, the change in the breeze—even in the Australian spring—brings back memories of the Kashphool and the blue skies of Kolkata. Durga Puja, the celebration of the Divine Mother’s victory over the demon Mahishasura, is the most significant event in our cultural calendar. It is a time when the “Sanatan” spirit of strength, wisdom, and victory of good over evil takes center stage.

A Home Away from Home At SACAV (Sanatan Art & Cultural Association Victoria), we understand that living in Australia doesn’t mean letting go of our roots. Our Durga Puja is organized with the same Vedic precision and cultural fervor found in the traditional Bonedi Bari or the vibrant Pandals of India.

The Five Days of Devotion

Maha Saptami: The journey begins with the Nabapatrika Snan, symbolizing the presence of Nature within the Divine.

Maha Ashtami: The most solemn day, where hundreds gather for the Pushpanjali, offering flowers and prayers with one voice. The Sandhi Puja, marking the transition between Ashtami and Navami, remains the spiritual climax of our event.

Maha Navami: A day of celebration, marked by the rhythmic Dhunuchi Naach and traditional music that echoes through the halls of Victoria.

Bijoya Dashami: A bittersweet farewell. With the Sindoor Khela, our women celebrate the strength of Shakti, wishing for the Mother’s return next year with the chant, “Asche bochor abar hobe!”

Culture Beyond Rituals Durga Puja at SACAV is also a platform for the Bengali Art and Cultural scene. We host local Victorian artists, showcase traditional dance forms, and serve the beloved Khichuri Bhog—a taste of childhood that transcends borders. It is here that the younger generation of Indian-Australians learns the value of their heritage and the power of community.

Join the Celebration Whether you are a devotee seeking spiritual solace or a cultural enthusiast wanting to experience the grandeur of Indian festivals, our doors are always open. Come, let us celebrate the Divine Shakti together.
